Re-Elect Zeni Maartman for Nanaimo City Council
The new Council has rebuilt relationships with our numerous stakeholders, and in particular Snuneymuxw First Nations, an important governance partner as we move forward with our updated Official Community Plan, ReImagine Nanaimo.
Just a few of our accomplishments in past four years that I am most proud of:
- Economic Prosperity Corporation
- Nanaimo Tourism Board
- Social Planning Organization ( to assist with housing/social services )
- New Fire Hall #1
- Purchase of Five Acres Farm
- Purchase of Jean Burns building and planning for revitalization of downtown.
- Accessibility and Inclusivity Committee
I am one of the City Representatives for :
- Nanaimo Port Authority Liaison
- Tourism Nanaimo Board
- BC Social Procurement
- RDN ( Transit / Parks and Trails Committee
I love our City. We have spent the last four years, in the midst of a pandemic, working hard to rebuild and reimagine our city now and in the future. We have been recognized as one of fastest growing small cities in all of Canada and we must plan for this. I am excited by this opportunity to build on our Reimagine Plans with a focus on our five goals:
A green, connected, healthy, empowered and prosperous Nanaimo.
In this term we have completed many plans, including downtown, Commercial Street, Diana Krall plaza, Terminal Avenue. The next four years will be about implementation and I would like to see these projects develop and our downtown blossom and thrive.
We are blessed to live, in my opinion, the best little city in North America if not the globe. We have so much more potential for the future. We must be fiscally responsible, and keep our lens on the environment, social needs of our citizens, the type of economic growth that is sustainable and green, so the future for generations will be healthy and inclusive for all.

Go Fund Me
Will you help me get re-elected and continue my leadership at the Council table – continuing to build our jewel of a city. The best little City in North America – and the fifth fastest growing in all of Canada. I would love to continue to be your voice with a seat at City Hall and you can help!!!!!
We have much work to complete at City Hall and I have enjoyed every minute of planning, decision making and representing the City on various committees and task forces including the Regional District. I have always been accessible and accountable to all and would continue to work hard to help make our city the best it can be.
ReImagine Nanaimo’s goals include being green and healthy, housing for all , empowering citizens, truth and reconciliation, accessibility and inclusivity, prosperous, safe and secure.
I welcome the opportunity to be re-elected to Nanaimo City Council however any election in order to succeed does require funds for promotion and advertising and other expenses. Signs ( even if reused and repurposed ) have costs just for the labels ( re-elect) ! Any amount you can donate would be greatly appreciated.
The municipal act requires that a person who donates be a BC Resident and either a Canadian Citizen or a Permanent Resident. The maximum limit is $1,250 (just saying…) and full disclosure, donations to a municipal campaign are unfortunately NOT tax deductible. Any and all donations will be put to good use, circulating in our local economy!
